SUMMARY:CCS Roundtable – Mental Wellness: The Impact in Construction
DESCRIPTION:Construction is a stressful occupation. The work is tough and often entails intense physical labor performed in dangerous conditions. Adding to the stress is the fact that employment is often temporary and precarious. These factors are having a significant impact on the well-being of construction workers: \n\nAccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\, the suicide rate for men in construction is four times higher than the overall suicide rate.\nA new study shows that construction workers are much more likely than people in other professions to missuse opiods\, cocaine\, and marijuna.\nOne study found that one in five construction workers struggle with mental health issues.\nChronic pain and depression have high comorbidity rates with 85% of chronic pain sufferers also experiencing depression.\n\nMental wellness and the impact on the construction industry is the focus of the next CCS Roundtable on September 30th. The Roundtable will feature various speakers to address mental wellness and share solutions on how to improve mental health outreach and support. \nSPEAKERS \nOur keynote speaker will be renowned international speaker Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas who will present “Suicidology 101”. She will address why the construction industry should care about discussing this difficult subject as well as share comprehensive strategies for workplaces and success stories. \nAnn Beal and Doug Benson of IMCS Group will present on how injuries can impact the brain and how the proper therapy can help with workers’ comp case management including how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help create goal-oriented treatment as well as how to self-treat after therapy sessions are completed. Beal and Kosater will share information on an Albertson’s/Safeway study on how CBT improves workers’ compensation outcomes. \nThe CCS Roundtable will be held Thursday\, September 30 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. virtually. Cost to attend is $49. \nPlease join us for this informative event. \n  \n**Deadline to register for the CCS Roundtable is Friday\, September 25 at 5:00 p.m. EST Cancellations after that date will not be refunded.** \nClick here to register\n\nThank You to our Roundtable Sponsor!
