
Trench Competent Person Training
This 4-hour course prepares individuals to serve as the designated “competent person” for trenching and excavation operations. Participants will learn to assess soil conditions, implement protective systems, and conduct daily inspections in compliance with OSHA Subpart P.
Learning Objectives
- Classify soil types and assess trench stability
- Identify trenching hazards and implement control measures
- Select and apply appropriate protective systems
- Conduct daily inspections and document findings
- Understand the responsibilities of a trench competent person
Participants will receive a printed certificate of completion from ARS. The training is OSHA compliant and certified by ARS.

Todd Taylor, Advanced Rescue Solutions
Todd has over 36 years in the fire service and currently serves as Ladder 82 Captain with Wayne Township Fire Department. He is a Rescue Team Manager with FEMA INTF-1, lead instructor for FDIC Heavy Truck Extrication, and Director of Advanced Rescue Solutions. Todd has been involved in technical rescue since 1995 and is a seasoned FDIC classroom and HOT instructor.
